RMIT University, University of Canberra and University of Sydney choose Canvas to improve the learning experience

Institutions turn away from legacy systems to embrace transformative online learning

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA — SEPTEMBER. 11, 2017 — Canvas by Instructure (NYSE:INST), the open online learning management system (LMS), has been selected by some of Australia’s most prestigious universities to transform the teaching and learning experience.

RMIT University, Australia's largest tertiary institution, the University of Canberra, which is ranked among the top 100 young universities in the world, and the University of Sydney, ranked in the top 50 universities globally, have implemented Canvas to deliver a flexible, progressive and student-centred approach to learning.

With more than half (54 percent) of undergraduates reporting that they have had to supplement their university curriculum with additional classes to ensure they are attractive to employers, Australian institutions are increasingly focusing on work readiness. Canvas’ ability to power self-directed study, which encourages the application of knowledge and critical thinking, will be pivotal in creating multi-skilled and adaptable graduates who are ready to make an immediate impact in the workforce.

“A skills-focused learning approach has a critical role in ensuring the success of the entire employment ecosystem — from individuals’ careers to the prosperity of businesses, industries and economies,” said Adam Bridgeman, Director of Educational Innovation at the University of Sydney. “Canvas will help us deliver motivating and engaging lessons to all our students, helping them develop the rounded and useful skills for employment and for a lifetime of learning.”

”The most forward-looking universities are increasingly embracing digital technology to augment face-to-face teaching, powering a more dynamic and flexible learning environment, said Troy Martin, VP of APAC for Canvas. We’re extremely proud to be working with some of Australia’s most well-respected institutions, who have recognised that digital transformation is a crucial vehicle for providing skills for employability and lifelong learning.”
